Introduction

‘Well, the old folks knew a thing or two about where to plant vines’, said one of our guests tasting an early Barta vintage. This was on our mind, too, when we first walked the Öreg Király’s centuries-old terraces, overgrown with bushes and trees, back in 2003. History obliges us to respect this outstanding vineyard site. In this spirit, we strive to cultivate our vines and make our wines with a view to upholding traditions. Traditions, however, cannot be maintained without innovation, therefore, we also keep improving the vinification technology in our winery, while avoiding the use of herbicides and systemic pesticides in the vineyard to preserve the unique terroir of the Öreg Király.
