Hungarian wine returns in the spotlight: Wines of Hungary at ProWein 2026

2026. March 4.

Hungarian Wine Marketing Agency

In March, Düsseldorf will once again become the capital of the wine world: ProWein, the international wine and spirits exhibition and one of the most influential global events in the industry, will be held from March 15 to 17, 2026. This year, Wines of Hungary will be representing Hungarian wines with its own stand again – and this year’s program also has some exciting new features.

Tasting Zone – More than 60 wines, a comprehensive overview of Hungary

Wines of Hungary began preparations for the 2026 ProWein Tasting Zone back in 2025, involving two leading German trade magazines, Wein+Markt and Meininger’s Weinwirtschaft, in the wine selection process.

Weinwirtschaft’s wine experts evaluated Hungarian white wines in three categories as part of the Furmint & Friends tasting. The focus was primarily on varietal Furmints, Furmint-based blends, and, in the “Friends” category, other Hungarian white wines made from typically local, autochthonous grape varieties. The evaluation was based on a 100-point scoring system widely used internationally, ensuring that the wines were rated objectively and according to global standards.

Another key thematic element of the 2026 Wines of Hungary Tasting Zone is the tasting led by Wein+Markt, focusing primarily on the Kékfrankos grape variety. Kékfrankos is one of Hungary’s most important red grape varieties, which fits in perfectly with international consumer trends. Its fruity character, lively acids, and elegant, easy-drinking style make it particularly appealing to younger generations.

This year’s Wines of Hungary Tasting Zone will focus on Furmint and Kékfrankos, but visitors will also be able to explore a wider range of Hungarian wines. The wines on display include Olaszrizling, Bikavér, Hárslevelű and many other distinctive Hungarian wine styles. Visitors will be able to taste more than 60 different wines, giving them a comprehensive overview of the diversity, quality and innovative approach of Hungarian winemaking.

New format: pop-up tasting at the stand

One of the new features of the 2026 edition is dynamic, targeted communication. This year, there will be no traditional masterclasses at the stand. Instead, we will be organizing short, 8–10-minute pop-up tasting sessions 3-4 times a day at the stand next to the tasting zone, focusing mainly on botrytis and Aszú, the faces of Furmint, Kékfrankos styles, and Olaszrizling.

M Masterclass at the ProWein Forum

A highlight of Wines of Hungary’s professional presence will be a 50-person thematic masterclass held by Konstantin Baum MW: on March 15 at 2:00 p.m., the ProWein Forum (Hall 6) will host a grand masterclass entitled The Magic of Hungarian Terroir – Where Tradition Meets Modernity.

All information about the participating wineries, the wines presented, and the programs can be found at prowein.bor.hu.

See you in Düsseldorf at booth C41 in Hall 3!
