La Cité du Vin is Bordeaux’s iconic cultural institution dedicated to presenting and promoting wine culture on a global scale. Through its interactive exhibitions, professional programs, and international collaborations, it builds bridges between wine, culture, science, and society, while fostering dialogue about the future of wine and its role in the world.
On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, La Cité du Vin opened a special photography exhibition entitled “Le tour du monde en 50 régions viticoles”, showcasing 50 wine regions from around the world. The opening ceremony was attended by the Wines of Hungary delegation, joined by Pál Rókusfalvy, Government Commissioner for National Wine Marketing.
Wine partners from around the world attended the opening ceremony. Following the welcoming speeches by the Cité du Vin team, guests explored the exhibition together. Each partner presents the unique character of their wine region through a selected photograph. The images capture the strength of a landscape, the significance of a gesture, the memory of a building, or the life of a community.
Wines of Hungary also submitted a photograph to the exhibition, focusing on Tokaji Aszú — one of the central elements of Hungarian wine identity and an internationally acclaimed wine specialty. The image was taken by Nándor Lang, who has long collaborated with the Hungarian Wine Marketing Agency.
In connection with the opening, a professional conference was organized under the title “Is there a future for wine without culture?” The symposium explored the role culture can play in the renewal of the wine sector and in shaping its future. The discussions focused on three main themes:
- Strengthening the attractiveness of the wine sector in a changing market and social environment,
- developing partnerships between culture, tourism, winemaking, and regional public policy,
- and creating new forms of communication and mediation that support ecological and social transition.
The event brought together experts, researchers, interprofessional organizations, decision-makers, and cultural stakeholders. The conference was held under the patronage of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
The visit also aimed to deepen professional cooperation with La Cité du Vin and to explore opportunities for future joint projects.
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge on the ground and first floors of La Cité du Vin during opening hours.
